Activities

FFA

USA students learn to develop leadership and personal growth potentials and explore career options through the agricultural education provided by Future Farmers of America. Our students develop projects related to the agriculture industry and compete against other chapters from around the state and nation to develop skills in presentations, organization, research and leadership.

FCCLA

FCCLA stands for Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America. FCCLA is the career & technical student organization for family & consumer science education. FCCLA is more than 50 years old, beginning in 1945 as the Future Homemakers of
America and New Homemakers of America, then adding Home Economics Related Occupations, and today is known as the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, or FCCLA. FCCLA's programs provide relevant, real-world experience and unparalleled leadership opportunities to the FCS curriculum.

Our local chapter focuses mainly on community service and leadership experiences. We hold annual "Clean out your Closet" drives to find clothes for the needy, "Prom Dress Swap", which provides prom dresses to girls in need, "Teddy Bear Drive", which raises money and stuffed animals for the Michigan State Police and several other
community based projects.

National Honor Society

Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors bestowed on a high school student. The NHS draws attention to the accomplishments of students who push beyond the average academic effort of students. The Society helps give practical meaning to the goals of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Our activities include: blood drives, paper recycling, Valentine's Day Flower Sale, tutoring of middle school students, VIP Buddies with elementary students in need of additional friendships, and bottle/can drives to raise food for other countries.

Spanish Club

Preparing students for tomorrow's careers means providing a solid understanding of diverse cultures, and in particular foreign languages. Spanish has become a critical second language for those in America , and the USA Spanish Club has responded to this need by giving students a solid foundation of basic Spanish words and phrases and insight into Central and South American cultures. Student trips to Mexico round out the educational experience at USA.

Student Council

School spirit is the mission of the Student Council! We strive to make USA the best school for students by planning the Homecoming and Coming Home pep assemblies, Talent Shows, entertainment, games and other activities. If school spirit is high, the Student Council is probably the reason.

People Helping People

As the name implies, People Helping People is all about students helping others. Started in 1996, approximately 80 PHP students meet every other week to plan upcoming activities, such as:

  • 30-Hour Famine w/World Vision to raise money for children without food
  • Support a needy child through Compassion International
  • Paint bridges to cover graffiti and improve neighborhoods during National Make a Difference Day
  • Working with CAB (Community Asset Builders) to coordinate activities for area youth that foster positive choices and lifestyles
  • One-on-one contact with younger children during lunch (VIP Program)
  • Prepare and serve concessions at home sporting events
  • Roofsit - Delegates are sent to McDonald's Food and Family Center in Bad Axe to sit on the roof as a fundraiser for abused and neglected children
  • Christmas caroling at Medallion Village Retirement Facility in Sebewaing
  • Hand out free cookies and hot cocoa at local grocery stores for Make-A-Difference Day,
